The budget has passed both the House and Senate with no additional money for the Maryland Tourism Development Board. Despite continual pressure from the tourism industry and MTC lobbyists, the legislature adopted the Governor’s recommendation and cut the legislatively mandated $6M that the Governor must include in the budget to $4.9 M. This cut will also serve as the “mandate” next year as well. On a brighter note, the legislature killed the “Shift Break” bill, which would have mandated a 15 minute shift break if an employee works 4 to 6 hours and 30 minutes if the employee works more than 6 hours.
Remember that you can check on all legislation that MTC is working on by going to the MTC website: www.mdtourism.com. All members will receive a final report by email after the end of the legislative session, April 13.
